Nutrition for freediving

Eating correct for a freediving training session/performance is more about not eating. If you eat witin a few hours of freediving a large volume of blood that could be carrying O2 to the brain is being diverted to the digestive system. The increased metabolism also increases the oxygen consumption up to several hours after a meal.

Dehydration is another important topic. It's easy to become dehydrated during freedive sessions, but it's less obvious when we are in the water. The dehydration is caused by several factors, but mainly from ventilation, as we expell greater quantities of water, through the mammalian dive reflex (greater production of urine) and from sweating inside the suit.
