My freediving background

I have snorkel/freedived for most of my life, but it took me some time to discover freediving by a line as the passion of my life.

Inspired by my father who was freediving, I did my first breathholds and a few-seconds underwater at an early age. I confused this lovely feeling of being underwater with scubadiving, and got myself a scuba ceritficate as soon as I was allowed. Then as I was working as a PADI Divemaster in Thailand I was freediving again during the surface intervals and I marvelled again at the feeling of freedom without the clumsy gear.

I had already seen the movie "The Big blue", and I knew that I would try real freediving one day. One summer I decided I needed more knowledge and guidance to get deeper in my snorkel-dives and I enrolled in a freediving course. My first dive was 2m deep and very painful - I had the first sinus squeeze of my life. But there was something with seeing the line lead into the green depths of the Swedish fjord, with seeing the other freedivers just disapperaing. I wanted and needed to get deeper. As my sinus squeeze diminished I practised all summer, but I couldn't get enough. So I moved to Dahab in the winters to be able to freedive all year round. As I'm very competitive and I've competed in all sports I've done, competing in freediving came natrual to me. The extreme focus of only making one perfect dive made freediving the perfect physical and mental challenge.

But freediving for me isn't only about going deep, beleive it or not. As I love the underwater world and have a great interest in marine biology, my best dives has been the ones diving with fish, in forests of coral and lying weightless on the bottom of a seabed.

My love for the sea is shared with my love for sports. Preferrably adventure sports practised in the outdoors; rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, adventure racing and a few more. I have also competed sucessfully in most sports I've tried.
In every sport I practise I try to find my limit, and I search for more and more demanding sports, training for several hours per day and competing against myself and others. As a part of this interest I've also studied physiology and physical training as well as sports psychology. I have my own business as a personal trainer since 5 years, and I am a ceritfied AIDA freedive-instructor.

I cooperate with my teacher colleague, freediving-coach and friend Sebastian Näslund, who has helped me a great deal to reach deeper. The deeper you freedive the more you need someone to rely on.
